A must have seed for deer food plots or in a food plot mix. Chicory is a perennial forage crop. It grows close to ground in winter months with broad leaves. It is considered to be drought tolerant due to its deep taproot.
Seeding Instructions- It is best grown on well to moderately drained soil. If planted alone in a deer food plot; broadcast in fall or spring at 4 lbs/acre into a well prepared soil and lightly disk or drag to a depth of 1/4- 1/2 inch. If mixed in a food plot mix, with other grains, clovers, and grasses; seed 3lbs of chicory per acre with a reduced seeding rate of the other seeds from 1/2 to 3/4 the recommended seeding rate.
Adaptation and Fertilization- Chicory does well in acid soils of pH 5.5 or higher. A soil test should be conducted.
Forage Quality - Very nutritious and palatable food for deer. Protein range is 10-32% depending on maturity. Forage yields from 4-6 tons/acre.
Wildlife Food Plot Advantage- High mineral content and nutritional value in leaves. Fast growing food for deer and produces excellent spring and summer growth making it a great seed for a deer food plot or food plot mix.
