A fast growing warm season oil seed crop that matures in 90 -110 days, it provides succulent food for deer, nutritious food for turkey and the best seed for doves. This is an often overlooked seed for deer hunters, however, it makes an excellent warm season deer food plot.
Fertility- A soil test is recommended. Grassy weeds can be a problem, so use appropriate grass killing herbicides.
Seeding Instructions- Broadcast 15-20 lbs/acre and disk to a depth of one inch. Plant in April after danger of last frost has passed in order to have a mature field before dove season. For dove hunter safety, fields of at least 10 acres are recommended.
Wildlife Food Plot Advantages- An excellent feed for animals. It is common knowledge that sunflowers are the most attractive seeds for dove. However the food for deer is among the best, and turkey readily eat this seed.
